Would've thought you'd be out dragging for Wahoo last weekend. Some boats did well, we did not. Needed to drag baits a little deeper on the planers. Hopefully we get another window of opportunity soon.

I've been doin okay on the reds lately. It's a bit easier when you can sight fish'em!

then went onto the inlet to "meat fish" for whiting just to make sure we brought home some dinner.

too broke to fish the ledge... wahoo have been on fire too.

Yeah, a black and purple "wahoo whacker" type lure with a choice bally on the planer will usually draw some fish. We've had a hoo crush the planer before too

Yozuri bonitas are good artificial plugs to drag as well.

Alot of guys have been high-speeding, but that burns some serious fuel.

^ Were there alot of whiting around the inlet? I was thinking about hitting the ocean nearshore for some whiting soon since snapper and grouper are closed and it's too soon for cobia. I went out for seabass on Saturday and did pretty well. Fished 5 spots in around 75 feet. All were loaded with seabass, but 4 spots yielded zero keepers and 1 spot was 70% keepers... kind of strange.

If the wahoo weren't 50-60 miles away I'd go for it. I'm not big on the idea of spending $30 a rig either, but would like to get one in the boat some day. From the reports I heard/read it was hit or miss out there last weekend, with about 70% "hit."

My biggest hoo was on a $3 sea-witch on a ballyhoo In another month or 2 you could probably get one in 130ft of water...... or less.

yeah, there were plenty of whiting, probably will be some more as it warms up a bit. 3 of us just brought home enough for the families to have dinner for the night.

Sea-bass will do that, I've noticed the same thing. I haven't bottom fished since december though.

Finally got around to going fishing this morning but after a while I ran out of worms.

Then I saw a cottonmouth snake with a frog in his mouth, and frogs are good bass bait. Knowing the snake couldn't bite me with the frog in his mouth; I grabbed him right behind the head, took the frog and put it in my bait bucket. Now the dilemma was how to release the snake without getting bit.

I grabbed my bottle of Jack Daniels and poured a little whiskey in its mouth. His eyes rolled back and he went limp. I released him into the lake without incident and carried on my fishing with the frog.

A little later, I felt a nudge on my foot. There was that same damn snake with two frogs in his mouth.

That happens to me all the time when I run out of worms, except I carry Jameson instead of Jack Daniels, but obviously it works just as good.

I was out about ten days ago offshore and there's still plenty of seabass around. On the way back in I soaked some fat, fresh dead shrimp at the tip of the jetties and caught a bunch of crap... tiny seabass, a mother-in-law fish and a bowfin. I haven't put a whole lot of time in the last couple of months but from what time I did put in I can say fairly confidently that the fishing at the jetties has really sucked this year... too cold I guess.
