Last May, the inaugural May Day Memorial Surf Classic went off without a hitch at the Flagler Beach Pier. The goal was set to raise awareness of heart disease by honoring the life of Dollie Sue Watson, who passed away in December of 2006 to heart disease; the #1 cause of deaths in women.
With the success of the event, and the birth of the non-profit May Day Memorial Foundation, we are excited to announce work is already underway for the 2nd Annual May Day Memorial Surf Classic- In Loving Memory of Dollie Sue Watson. Slated for Saturday, May 12th, 2012 at the Flagler Beach Pier, we hope to once again bring the community together for a day of fun in the sun for a good cause! This year’s event will raise funds towards the May Day Foundation, the non-profit organization created as a result of the proceeds from the 1st Annual surf contest. The May Day Foundation goals are to continue raise awareness of heart disease, encourage prevention and healthy life style , and to provide aide to uninsured people in our community.
We are currently seeking volunteers and sponsors for our 2012 event. A sponsor form with options of levels of donations and sponsorships will be available soon.
