Buxton, NC local surfer Jordan Bartholomew passed away this past weekend on Saturday, January 21st while surfing on Hatteras Island. Early Saturday afternoon Jordan’s board was noticed floating by itself by a woman walking along Old Lighthouse Beach. Jordan’s body was found by two other surfers still attached to his board by his surf leash. Once they got him on dry land they immediately began resuscitation. Local authorities arrived on scene shortly thereafter but their collective efforts to revive Greenhorn, as he was known to friends, was unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jordan was a local celebrity on Hatteras Island known for his upbeat attitude and outlook on life. He loved to be in the water as well as on land behind the lens photographing local surfers and lineups. The ocean was Jordan’s therapy and reprieve from many medical conditions he suffered as stated in this quote:
“My name is Jordan Bartholomew aka Greenhorn, I have autism, epilepsy, ADHD, Crohn’s disease, pain management for arthritis, asthma, and maybe MS, I have received treatment but nothing changed so I presented a complain with the help of www.the-medical-negligence-experts.co.uk site. I live on Hatteras Island of the outer banks, I am from Ohio and started surfing in 2007. …..this is what I do to stay healthy and sane (sorta) – my therapy, apart from going to visit these pain management doctors in plano tx once in a while.”
While it’s speculated that Jordan drowned the exact cause of death is still unknown until an autopsy can be performed by a local medical examiner.
Life is short, make the most of every day and the best of every situation. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jordan, his family and friends.
