Yesterday was the smallest day yet, which gave us an excellent opportunity to free dive and spear fish, my new friend Doug Gall brought a gun and I used this super busted Indonesian sling. Doug nailed a Travali, which is like a trigger fish but a lot bigger. The reef was loaded with with yellow tail snapper, mutton snapper, grouper, jacks, and other trigger fish. I don’t ever spear fish at home, which I should and definitely will when I get back, for now I am addicted. I hit a decent sized snapper in the head but he got off and swam up into this cavern. I went after him and was greeted by the biggest blowfish I have ever seen in my life. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get him and had to do the walk of shame back over the reef. The sling I was using had no range to it and made it virtually impossible to get anything. Despite my disappointment, it was still a beautiful experience. Note to self… DON’T go on a 3 hour 3 mile spear fish adventure before you try and surf unless you want the worst cramps of your life. The new surplus of campers also arrived which brought the total to 90 surfers, but with them also came the new swell. This morning was a completely different story than all of the other days here . We woke up to waves of 8ft. plus, and while everyone had breakfast I snuck out before the crowd and got the biggest barrels of my life…
