It wasn’t a perfect hurricane season, but by Florida standards, it was pretty good. The Atlantic saw an above-average year. And while the Sunshine State usually sees more overhead stacks of plywood than overhead waves, it was spared any landfalling storms. Surfers mostly just sucked down the sweet nectar of tropical juice.
Cory Lopez, who had an up and down year competitively, taking alternate spots at World Tour events and clashing with hungry surfers in the ASP Primes, was back in Florida for the most recent swell. This was storm without a name. And as he and his brother Shea scored one drainer after another, there was nowhere else they would rather be. Warm and hollow, Florida was where it was at.
