Early Saturday morning we left San Clemente and headed to Huntington Beach for the Rip Curl Grom Search. It was the who’s who of surfing when we sat in the middle of Tom Curren and his son and Kanoa Igarashi, Quicksilver’s wonder boy. I surfed good, but not good enough to advance, I got a 4th and needed a 3rd to advance; however, the waves were fun and I had some of the best surfers from California in my heat. After that, we met up with Huntington Beach local and former Flagler College grad, Tom “Gruesome” Dowd who showed us around. He started growing his gotee 20 years ago while at Flagler and hasn’t cut it since. We ended the day back in San Clemente with a family surf session at T Street. Headed down to Trestles tomorrow with my dad!
