Hello!
Today we have a pick from a local Surf Station team rider of ours, Evan Brownell. Evan was one of my first team riders I ordered boards for back in the mid 2000s. I have watched him grow from a little white headed grom riding 5’1″ roundtails to the full on man-child he is today. His entire family is awesome and Surf Station is lucky to have him and his brother Noah onboard.

Evan’s current go to board is a bit different than what you would think a young performance oriented surfer would like these days. Beak nose, hard rails and vee bottom are all inspired from the 70s and 80s and are all incorporated into this modern take on an everyday board. These attributes along with many more make for an easy paddling, smooth riding board with tons of modern performance hidden in the design. Here is what Evan has to say about his beloved Retro Ripper..
“Best things about the board are the thin pintail(shortening the rail line) with the low cut wings(adding bite) and the vee in the nose and tail(smoothing it all out). It goes off the bottom on your backside really good! I use the FCS2 MR2+1 set up in the board I feel like it makes it just a little bit looser. Overall, the board is really fast, easy to paddle and I love riding it in peaky beachbreak. Oh and it works good in the tube!”
