We are back with our weekly installment of “What they ride” or in this case “Team picks”. Today we have our second post with Evan Brownell, local shredder, Mayhem surfboard enthusiast and rising surfboards salesman! Evan chose his newest board, the Sub Driver swallow tail to profile this week. Enjoy!

Words from Evan: “This board is super fast in small, clean waves and has really good drive off the bottom. I use the AirCore large CI fins in it and it works in anything from knee to head high. The stringer less EPS carbon wrap has great flex, liveliness and you can really feel the board under your feet.”
I agree with Evan here, I have a carbon wrap Beach Buggy and it is one of the most lively boards I have ever had. I find myself enjoying the spring it has off of the bottom but sometimes I lose control in certain conditions and need to slow myself down. The Beach Buggy model has alot of flip in the nose and tail so the Sub Driver is probably better suited to EPS construction as it has less overall rocker. It truly is a great daily driver that works in a large variety of conditions. The swallow tail version breaks up the wide squash tail planing surface and allows the board to bite more and pivot easily. If you are looking for a bread and butter everyday performance board than look no further.
Also, if anyone has any apprehension about trying a stringerless EPS I would suggest a Carbon Wrap from Mayhem or the CI Spine-Tek as they are as close to PU construction “feel” as possible. You still get the added benefit of “team light” weight and durability of a PU along with the liveliness as outlined above.
