7:25 am: This morning the waves look to be on a slight increase.  Waves 1 to 1.5 feet on first look.   The surface conditions are semi-choppy with the wind currently NW @ 7-13 mph.  On our local buoy the current reading is 4.3 feet at 5 seconds, up from yesterdays 1.6 feet at between 5 and 11 seconds.   The marine forecast calling for chilly N winds again today.  You can see the ocean live by viewing The Surf Station Cam Page here.

8:00 am:  Early morning photos are up box #1 and on second look the waves are bigger than the first look and it’s definitely bigger than yesterday.   Going to up the size to 1-2 feet, knee to waist high.  Angled N swell with for sure some thigh high waves at times.  It’s very much pushing down the beach with lots of angle.  Check the extreme angle of the swell on the Buoy Swell Combined Polar Spectrum which is aways available to view on the Surf Station Weather Station page

2:05 pm:    New afternoon photos are up box #2 and you can see it’s somewhat choppy and not any bigger.   The buoy has inched up some… but not much in the size of swell along the beach.  With that said, the tide will be pushing in all the way till dark tonight, so we could get a push with the incoming tide and see any increase.    The inside could improve then….

Here is a good link to track near-shore wave height/period/direction and water temperature just off the NE Florida coast: the Fernandina Beach buoy. Located upstream (to the north) and closer to the coast than the St. Augustine buoy, it’s a good indicator of fluctuations in NE Florida surf conditions influenced by winter cold fronts.
