It was a packed house, err parking lot at the shop last night for the latest film from February.
If you build it, they will come.
In this case, “it” means a brand new film from Channel Islands, starring the most stylish surfer in the world, Mikey February. And “they” means the Saint Augustine surf community, including legends like Walter Coker, Dustin Miller, Gabe Kling, Jody Davis, Lauren Hill, and her partner, Dave Rastovich.
Yep, that’s right: On a humid October night in the Oldest City, two of the most interesting surfers in the world — Mikey February and Dave Rastovich — were in the same place at the same time, chatting with the local community about surfboard design, upcoming travel plans, and everything in-between. Two legends of surfing, as humble, giving and gracious as they come.
Channel Islands gets it. With everything happening instantaneously online these days, they understand that “community” is sometimes missing from our local surf communities. With the east coast premiere tour of “Spearfish”, their goal is to bring us all back together. That, and to show a really sweet surf film.
Speaking of which: “Spearfish” is a collection of beautiful surfing from February on his brand new CI model while in Mexico, Indo, and Morocco. If you weren’t already a twin-fin enthusiast, you will be after watching this film. Who knew you could knife a late drop on a short, flat, swallow tail twin? And who knew a twin had that much hold? It’ll make you rethink your quiver before your next surf trip.
