The Surf Station Boardroom now Hosts Christenson Surfboards
There is a new addition to the largest boardroom on the East Coast: top-tier shaper Chris Christenson of Christenson Surfboards. Hailing from his hometown of Cardiff-by-the-Sea in sunny California, Christenson currently operates out of San Marcos, CA. With over 30 years of shaping experience, Christenson began his career with a six year apprenticeship under Dick Brewer. Not only did he learn from the man who many credit to being the father of the modern day surfboard, Christenson also learned from then neighbor Skip Frye.
A world-class surfer and snowboarder himself, the influence of Brewer and Frye’s shapes are evident in Christenson’s shapes. Christenson Surfboards focus on what is timeless, often emulating shapes originated in the late 1960’s. These traditionally built boards are made 100 percent by hand and are glassed in house, with an attention to detail that shows. Christenson often keeps one eye on the past while looking toward the future, relying heavily on team rider feedback to perfect his shapes. While he makes a mean longboard, he has also has greats the likes of Greg Long, Ian Walsh, Mark Healy and more trust his guns.
These carefully crafted surfboards are an example of true craftsmanship, evident as soon as one of these shapes is placed under your arm. High gloss finishes and carefully selected stringer compositions are just a few of the details that put these boards a cut above the rest.
