Women Transforming the World of Female Surfing
“My biggest compliment is not that I surf like a man, but that I surf like a woman,” said Leah Dawson, a female surfing icon.
There are moments in life that you will later look back on and consider to be transformative. Moments that draw a clear line between a newly created “then” and “now”. Three years after hearing this simple sentiment from Leah Dawson in an interview with the Inertia, I recognize this as of those moments in my life.
From this moment on, I became entirely obsessed. Women like Leah, Kassia Meador, Malia Manuel and countless others served as an example of style, grace and beauty in the water the likes that I had never before witnessed.
Women of this generations are working harder than ever before to build on the foundation of female surf culture established by the greats that came before our own. We are the daughters and granddaughters of the trailblazing women that carved out a place in the industry for the females that are drawn to the sea.
Here we present Seea’s latest film series “Generations”. For those who are not familiar, Seea is a women’s surf brand dedicated to the women in the water searching for the a balance between surf function and style. “Generations” highlights the stories of the women who were raised by the sea, only to share this love of the ocean with daughters of their own. In the journey of womanhood for these women of the water, the sea becomes a constant companion.
