Her Waves Hits the Racks with Unique Women’s Apparel
This month the Surf Station introduces Her Waves, an artist designed women’s surf brand hailing from sunny California. Founded by Jennipher Marie in 2019, Her Waves is a collection of designs created by independent artists. Working with former longboard pro and surf photographer Ashleigh Yob, this duo had a simple goal: support creative women in and out of the water.
Ethically Produced Goods
To achieve this goal, Her Waves sources local producers to create products mostly made of 100% organic cotton or cotton. All printing is done by a local screen printer in San Diego, CA using water-based inks and only WRAP certified or Fair Trade manufacturing.
So what’s that mean for your clothes?
It means that all of Her Waves’ products have received a certification from the Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production, a program which assures safe, legal, and ethical manufacturing. Bottom line: you can look good while also feeling good about your purchase. Her Waves extends their conscientious production to the packaging of their products, using 100 percent biodegradable or recyclable packaging.
Supporting Creative Women
When Jennipher and Ashleigh founded Her Waves, they set out to reform how women are represented in the surf industry. The goal was to place women’s surfing in the hands of surfers, by supporting the women who are disrupting the status quo. Her Waves supports these movers and shakers through collaborations, interviews, and partnerships. Each design in the Her Waves collection is comprised of a maximum 500 pieces featuring the designs of a female artist. These limited runs help to maintain the individuality of the brand.
In fact, Surf Station’s very own Addie Gibson has seen support from the brand. The girls over at Her Waves have featured Gibson’s art, providing a platform for her to speak to her creativity and inspirations both in and out of the water. Gibson’s own goals align with the Her Waves mission statement:
“We live and breathe surfing and artist expression. From those just starting out to the more established, we work with and promote unique, passionate female artists from around the world. Each artist we work with is paid and supported through our network.
