It’s been 16 years since an ASP event has run heats at Kammieland (A more consistent reef across from sunset) and because of the flat spell it happened again today. The ‘swell’ showed up today, but unfortunately, it only showed in the 3-4 foot range (on the face) and was accompanied by what felt like hurricane force trade winds.
Gabe and Brian both had important heats today, and both fell victim to the inconsistent windy surf and didn’t advance. For Gabe, it’s a bummer as he is sitting in 30th place on the WT rankings, needing to stay within the top 32 by years end, with only the Pipe event left to surf in. Hopefully he gets on a roll, gets through a few rounds, and will safely secure himself a starting spot for 2011. He certainly deserves that shot.
Since today’s surf was less than spectacular there isn’t anything in the way of video to share. Tomorrow looks similar (with less wind, I think) so hopefully we can surf and film something by day’s end.
Not exactly the harrowing sunset of years past, but hey, the show must go on
