Mary Street is one of those places that is too far south for people near downtown and too far north for people near the Matanzas Inlet. It is kind of a locals only surf break. It has three sandbars that break when the big waves fill in. Mary Street is one of my favorite places to surf!
I went out this morning to take a walk and I saw two surfers out there. They didn’t do much so I was about to give up, then a surfer/filmer named Luke Kothera showed up! I’ve shot him before and I knew he could surf, so I stuck around. The inside was firing (with knee high sets).

Some morning showers were popping up offshore. I was trying to spot some waterspouts since the winds in the upper levels were moving out of the northeast and the surface level winds were moving out of the Northwest. This is called directional wind shear which would create a tornado/waterspout. But with waterspouts, we look for the change in wind direction near the surface, since most form as fair weather spouts. I know a few things about the weather 🙂
