7:15 am: There is dense fog at the beach early this morning.   The waves are lliley much smaller with waves in the 1.5 to 2 foot foot range, occasionally a little larger.   Our local winds are currently calm. allowing for semi-glassy to glassy surface conditions.  . The  marine forecast is calling for light offshore then onshore winds today. Our local buoy is currently reading 3.3 feet at 10 seconds down in size from yesterdays  5.9 feet @ 8 seconds.  The water temperature is measured offshore at 61 degrees early this morning. 8:00 am:  Early morning photos are up box #1 and you can see how super foggy it is!   Super hard to see the surf so our best guess of the waves size is based on the buoy readings offshore, which have dropped way down in size.  Wave size mostly around knee to waist high is the best guesstimate as of this time.  With the real light wind, it is likely quite glassy if you did paddle out…

1:45 pm:  New afternoon photos are up box #3 and you can see we have fairly clean conditions with plenty fo swell.  Some chest high waves at least on some of the larger set waves.  Offshore winds making for some opening up lefts and right.   Here is a video from the beach….

Dean extended the Surf Station Surf Forecast through the start of the New Year, calling for surf to hold through the weekend. Will we see a day or two of long period ground swell with offshore wind to end 2024 and start 2025 (before air temps get much colder dropping surf temps into the upper 50’sF during the first two weeks of January)?

Here is a good link to track near-shore wave height/period/direction and water temperature just off the NE Florida coast: the Fernandina Beach buoy. Located upstream (to the north) and closer to the coast than the St. Augustine buoy, it’s a good indicator of fluctuations in NE Florida surf conditions influenced by winter cold fronts.
