Some folks want to go surfing no matter what. And I can’t say I blame them. There’s no greater thrill. Port Lincoln, Australia, locals Tyron Swan and his mother, Pascale Honore, surf together. Literally, duct taped together. Quite an impressive feat. If standard tandem surfing blew your hair back before, then watch the video below to see what these two are doing. You won’t be disappointed.
This is really what surfing is all about–spreading stoke, helping others, and catching waves. Ty gives his mother the chance to experience the unique sensation of riding waves after she was in a wheelchair for 18 years due to a terrible car accident that left her a T4 paraplegic, but at the end it was worth it. She had always watched Ty and his brother surf and wanted to give it a try. The solution was simple (McGyvers listen up!): a K-Mart backpack and a roll of duct tape.
After word got out about their brilliant new method of surfing, Ty and Pascale have started to ready themselves for a surf trip they call “Legless Summer.” The excursion will send them to Western Australia in search of bigger waves, which Ty fancies anyway, and a greater challenge. Once they arrive in Kalbarri, West Oz, surfer Ry Craike of Fish Out of Water will show them the local spots and get them into some size.
