St. Augustine surfers lost a great surfer this past weekend with the passing of Steve Boerema.
How many times have you pulled up to check the surf and there is the guy on the giant yellow longboard dropping in, with his hands classically in the air!
And Steve would surf when no one else would. There were days we were calling the surf “Flat to 6 inches” yet Steve would call the shop and tell us how much fun he’d had. He would even send in photos proving us wrong when we doubted there were really waves. Steve could find fun with any day in the water.
Local surfer Lynn Harrington said of Steve: “He was like Greg Brady, tall, with that curly hair. And he was always in the line up. Always there.”
Steve loved to photograph what was going on in our local waters. Swipe Right for 6 photos with…
1. Steve in the line up, pelicans flying, nature all around, in his element.
2.The classic Steve Boerema ‘Hands in the air’ ride.
Photos 3 & 4: Steve would photograph angles from the front and back of his ‘Yellow Submarine’ 12’ Mickey Munoz Longboard.
5. Steve was known to shoot the pier, quite often.
6. Goodspeed Steve Boerema
We are awaiting word on a paddle out or service for Steve and will get word out once finalized.
