7:05 am: Windy at the beach this morning. Increasing N swell surf. The wave size is looking 2-3 feet with larger set waves. It’s choppy with strong sideonshore N winds. The marine forecast is calling for more strong NE winds today . On our local buoy the early morning reading is 7.5 feet at 8 seconds up from yesterdays 4.6 feet at 6 seconds. 9:00 am: Early morning photos are up in box #1 and you can see there are increased waves. It’s choppy and blown out at many spots. But at the more S facing beaches (a limited amount of space S of the pier) the angle of the wind is such that there is spray off the rights and it’s semi-clean. It’s quite drifty and as the wind clocks more onshore the surf will end up being blown out here too.

Here is the weekly weather forecast for St.Augustine Beach. the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season thankfully concluded November 30th, but “All is quite on the western (Atlantic) front” doesn’t take into consideration increasingly stronger cold fronts, nor’easters and occassional open-ocean winter lows. Consequently, while perusing the latest model runs, Dean extended the 7-Day Surf Forecast all the way to Christmas Day. What did Nazare Portugal and St. Augustine Florida have in common this winter? Several long period ground swells from open ocean winter storms that generated huge seas in the north-central Atlantic.
