6:55 am: The Hurricane Lee groundswell continue their slow increase. Waves should be a little bit bigger than yesterday at daybreak Long period groundswells with the wave size 3-4 feet with some occasional larger set waves is the early morning call. It’s semi-glassy to glassy with light offshore winds early . The marine forecast for a seabreaze today. On the local buoy, the early (6 am) wave height measurement is 4.6 feet at 15 seconds, up from yesterdays 4.3 feet at 14 seconds. You can watch the waves firsthand on our live surf cam page.

8:00 am: Early morning photos are up in box #1 and you can see there are some solid groundswell lines for your Thursday. With a hurricane 800 miles straight off our coast, this is what happens. We lucked into offshore west winds early this morning, making for clean conditions. It’s hard to find a wave that doesn’t close out, but look around and find your best spot to enjoy the swell. Some shoulder to head high waves for sure. Very strong swell with a fairly strong south to north current…

11:00 am: If there was a day to call in your favors at work to get some time off, it would be today. The waves are in the 3-4 foot range with occasionally larger sets and very clean conditions. Our local winds are blowing out of the NNE @ 4 knots, making the waves super glassy midday. The waves are in the shoulder high range with larger waves on the sets, breaking just a little slow at report time. We have a low tide coming up just before 2:30 this afternoon, so the waves should start standing up more as the lower tide approaches. The longer period swell is adding more power than we usually see, with very fun, playful looking conditions. The winds are projected to increase throughout the day, so I would get on it while it’s still clean out there. There are tons of new pics in box #2 to check out.

6:15 am: There are 92 new photos are up in box #3 with photos throughout the day. The last 3 photos in the slide show are from this evening after the wind turned onshore. The other photos are from around the pier late morning and early afternoon when the surf was better. Some really fun waves all day! The outside sandbars were working nicely. The south to north current was pushing surfers north all day.

How much of the swell will hold overnight and into tomorrow? The local buoy is hanging in there so ther eshjdl be wavesd tomorrow for sure…

Models continue to forecast Lee, a long-track Cabo Verde origin hurricane, to be a large/ strong hurricane while re-curving 750 or so miles east of Florida Wednesday, just before weakening some more as it accelerates north toward Down East Maine/Nova Scotia late week with potential landfall on Saturday. The SIZEABLE multi-day, long period ground swell will build through mid-week and peak in size Thursday morning.. See Dean’s 7-Day Surf Forecast for the details..
