Surf Report comments:

7:40 am: Smaller surf again today. Wave height early looks in the shin to knee high range or so, breaking fairly weak & shallow at the moment, but there are some more ridable looking faces at times, could improve a bit as the tide starts to switch here. The wind is light side-offshore allowing for mostly glassy surface conditions at the moment. Our local buoy the early wave height reading is 1.3 feet at 4 seconds, changed from yesterdays 1.6 foot at 4 seconds. The marine forecast is predicting light SW winds through the day. The water temperature is measured at 63.7 degrees at The Pier this morning. See the ocean live by viewing The Surf Station Cam Page here.

1:30 pm: New afternoon photos are up in box #2 and you can see it’s super super small this afternoon. It’s still glassy with the light west wind. That could change though and a seabreeze would bump up these teeny tiny waves. It’s a super nice day with many celebrating St. Patty’s Day the beach…

Here is the overview wind map. Here is the weekly weather forecast for St Augustine Beach, and the 5-day NWS Marine Forecast for Northeast Florida coastal waters. A very small (groveling sized) mixed period swell will trickle in Sunday and to start the work week.on the Ponce buoy. Looking upstream, the South Hatteras buoy iis the one to monitor for the next swell that will build Tuesday/Wednesday. Looking ahead, there is hope embedded in Dean’s Surf Forecast “While we will see generally small surf through mid-March, a pair of brief pulses of N/NE swell will filter in on the 19th, and again on the 23rd. Then, latest medium-range forecast analysis suggests a strong high pressure ridge may build behind the second front around the 25th and low pressure could spin up nearly stationary in place over the western Atlantic south of Bermuda, creating a decent ENE/E fetch. This would result in asizeable multi-day NE/E swell during the middle of the last week in March.” Latest model runs suggest this scenario may play out again during the first week of April – stay tuned!
