Surf Reports comments:

7:15 am: The waves look to be on a slight increase early early. A new angled N swell with the wave size at 1 to 1.5 feet. The wind is side offshore NW pushing in very cool air. The surface conditions are semi-glassy near shore with the NW offshore wind. The marine forecast is calling for increasing N winds today. Our local buoy is currently reading 4.3 feet at 6 seconds up from yesterdays 2.0 feet at 3 seconds. The water temperature is measured offshore at 63 degrees early this morning. 2:15 pm: What looked like a new north swell starting up… well, that fizzled out and there is no real increase this afternoon. In fact it looks smaller than the dawn patrol report. A lot of it is the swell angle. Just not enough swell pointing in. More swell going down and away than angling in. Only a very minor north swell at around 1/2 a foot to 1 foot as we head toward Thursday evening….

6:00 pm: New evening photos are up box #2 and that’s Kason Kling our charging it on the north side of the pier in the photos. Yes it’s cold and yes overall the waves are small.. but procticing like he’s doing is going to make him a better surfer! Maybe we all shoulda surfed today?

On that positive note.. outta here. Next update will be early early in the morning… over and out….

Dean’s Surf Station Surf Forecast calls for surf to remain rideable as it gradually trends downward this week. The January 2025 will see a series of cold fronts push through every 3 days, with progressively colder to frigid air masses invading Florida. Surf temps north of the Cape will drop into the upper then mid-50’sF (potentially low 50’s St. Auggie northward!) by mid-month. Will there be any ice cream headache waves to go along with the Arctic outbreak? Maybe… but it may be so cold it won’t matter!

Here is a good link to track near-shore wave height/period/direction and water temperature just off the NE Florida coast: the Fernandina Beach buoy. Located upstream (to the north) and closer to the coast than the St. Augustine buoy, it’s a good indicator of fluctuations in NE Florida surf conditions influenced by winter cold fronts.
