I have always wanted to go to a rodeo. I had always pictured big bulls rattling their starting cages, as an experienced rider sets up for the intended 8 second ride… bell rings, and it’s on.
We’ll apparently, that’s not always the case. Sunday proved to be too small to surf only to be further beat down by the relentless 30 – 40 mph lake Nicaragua offshore winds. Fortunately, some friends pointed us down to the local rodeo for some entertaining bull riding and overall cultural experience.
We paid up the 10 cordobas ($0.50), grabbed a few cold ones, and set up along the rickety chain link fence. As the staring gate opened up, the crowd jumped, and rooted for the locals brave enough to hop on these bulls with no protection.
Overall, it was a great experience. If you ever have the chance to go, I recommend checking one out. If there’s only a chain link fence between you and an angry bull… even better!
