It was another classic day at the Surf Station just like any other… A young man with long curly red hair, face covered in sweat and musk, walks in. He has a backpack, skateboard, and hands full of papers for some reason. We catch eyes as he grins and introduces himself. Mark Williams is his name. He then showed me his papers he had been holding… His travel log.
Mark is from Maryland. He has been averaging 80+miles a day on his skateboard in hopes of beginning his new dream… His own skate/pizza shop Certy’s Skate Shop. He wipes the sweat from his eyes and forehead as he shows me his most recent logs. He skated all the way to the Station from MARYLAND on the skateboard he competes on. His goal is to reach 35 states, 10,000 miles, and $35,000 in 100 days.
While on his journey Williams competes in various pro/am competitions. Including Tampa Pro/Am, Zumiez Best Foot Foreward contest, and the Damn AM in GA! Williams continues his journey through the support of people he meets who hear his story, and he raises money for his skate/pizza shop on Go Fund Me where he has raised over $1000.
I couldn’t help, but buy him a brand new pair of trucks.
Mark is a professional skateboard instructor at Go Skate Skateboard School. He has a passion for teaching and raising interest in skateboarding. Along his way, he will be teaching a few, free hour-long lessons for Go Skate – a nationwide skateboard school. He is also donating a portion to breast cancer research.
Williams is a true source of inspiration and motivation. This is a man who gave up everything he has for the vision of his ultimate goal. He has immersed himself fully into what he loves and is doing it all on his own. Right now, Williams is working his way towards the West Coast one day at a time.
