SPY’S DALE EARNHARDT JR. HAPPILY WINS COVETED NASCAR DAYTONA 500
Earnhardt Jr. Wins at Rain-Soaked Daytona International Speedway
CARLSBAD, Calif.—SPY® is happy to announce Dale Earnhardt Jr. raced to his second Daytona 500 victory—NASCAR’s most prestigious race—at Daytona International Speedway Sunday, February 23. A part of the SPY family for nearly a decade, Dale Jr.’s dominant performance lands him in a prime position to qualify for the 2014 Chase format and the 2014-2015 All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
“Winning this race is the greatest feeling that you could have in this sport aside from obviously accepting the trophy for winning the championship,” said an elated Dale Jr. “I didn’t know if I’d ever get a chance to feel that again and it feels just as good, if not better than the first one because of how hard we’ve tried year after year, running second all them years wondering why and what we needed to do.”
Battling heavy rain and an eventual restart, Dale Jr. methodically maneuvered during the first half of the race, ultimately catapulting himself into the lead at lap 131. Fighting to maintain his position at the front, Dale Jr. was challenged once more to fend off the other drivers at the 20 laps to go mark, encountering a dramatic side-by-side battle with top contenders until propelling himself to victory with the help of Hendrick Motorsport teammate Jeff Gordon.
Voted NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver for an 11th consecutive time, Dale Jr. will be spotted trackside in his signature SPY Dirty Mo with the revolutionary Happy Lens™ at Avondale, AZ this Sunday, March 2, in search of another first place finish. Tune into Fox at 3:00 p.m. ET for live coverage of the race.
