The difference between the air temp in Costa Rica of 94 degrees and the water temp of 82 = 12 degrees. That’s about the high temp in the northeast for some areas who were hit by the blizzard! Eight year old Flagler Beach grom Braeden Kopec enjoyed the warm temps in Costa Rica last week with mostly 4 to 5 foot swell. This short video was captured on a smaller day in Costa which is better than a cold day….
Braeden Kopec competes in Costa Rica
Eight year old Flagler Beach area surfer Braeden Kopec just returned from competing in his first international surfing contest. The contest was held in Costa Rica’s Guanacaste region on the northwestern coast. Prior to the event Braeden spent nine days training with his Costa Rican surf coach experiencing varying conditions in Nosaro, Ostianel, Avellanas, Marbella, Playa Grande, Witch’s Rock and Ollie’s Pont. Braeden competed in two age divisions at the event: Boys 16 and under and also 12 and under. After advancing through several elimination rounds in both divisions Braeden finished the day with a very exciting third place in the highly competitive 16 and under age division! He finished fifth in the 12 and under division. “I was so excited to surf a contest in another country against the locals who surf those waves every day. There are some really, really good surfers in Costa Rica and it was so cool to be able to compete with them. …. Everyone was really nice at the contest we all became friends. I had fun which is the most important part of surfing anywhere”.
