Surf Report Comments

Saturday, November 23

Surf Reports comments:
7:15 am:    It’s cold at the beach this morning.   Clean skies with waves 1/2 a foot to 1 foot.  The swell direction is very N with angled small N swell peaks.       The wind is very chilly NW @ 6-10 knots.        The marine forecast is calling for NW winds today.     Our local buoy is currently reading 3.9 feet at 5 seconds the same as yesterdays 3.9 feet at 5 seconds  .    The water temperature is measured at 72 degrees early this morning.  You can see the ocean live by viewing The Surf Station Cam Page here.

.

7:55 am:    Early morning photos are up box #1 and you can see the waves are real small.  Highly angled N swell with waves @ shin to knee high It’s cold at the beach!   Evenso, one surfer is out there going for it, and you can see him catch a wave in the photos, and the wave just died.   Not much ummph to it , but think he’s stoked anyway…

.

.

1:45 pm: The waves are still looking very small scale with some angle toward the N. The waves are looking to be in the occasionally knee high range, with some surface shop. Our local winds are currently blowing out of the WNW @ 8 to 15 knots, with cool breezes on the sand. Overall, it’s looking pretty small scale and weak, a better day for the paddle board or maybe fishing.

Left up from yesterday:

3:45 pm:    New late afternoon photos are up box #2 and you can see the waves are real small.   Super angled from the north and you see the lines are pushing southward.   Overall, only around shin high, but super clean  A nice day at the beach as we head toward your Friday Happy Hour…..

Strong cold fronts are pushing through Florida, scouring out tropical moisture the second half of November with the 2024 hurricane season coming to a close. Cold fronts and coastal lows will determine our wind, waves and water temps. The unseasonably cold (January-like!) weather this weekend will drop surf temps below 70F and lead to the longest (in months) small to eventually flat spell leading up to Thanksgiving Day. There is hope for improvement later in the holiday weekend as noted in The Surf Station Forecast. Here is an overview of a large-scale, real-time wind map to track the shifting winds associated with the fronts and lows that produce our waves.

Quote Of The Day

Surfing, alone among sports, generates laughter at its very suggestion, and this is because it turns not a skill into an art, but an inexplicable and useless urge into a vital way of life.
