It is with great admiration and gratitude that we announce Ryan Morgan as our #StokeAHero Channel Islands Happy Winner! Ryan is an ER Clinical Pharmacist at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center. When NY Governer Cuomo made a plea for healthcare volunteers, Ryan signed up immediately. Within a week Ryan dropped his obligations in LA, made the difficult decision to leave his family, and headed across the country to volunteer at a COVID Intensive Care Unit in NYC. He used his vacation time to be able to leave his current job and worked 14 days straight helping critically ill patients at an underfunded and understaffed hospital in Brooklyn. Once he returned to LA, he immediately went back to work in the ER caring for COVID patients. At the time his nomination letter came to us from his Fiancee, Emma, he was on his 20th straight day working. Ryan started surfing 3 years ago and has been hooked ever since. Surfing has brought him a new source of solace and stoke. With LA beaches closed and no time to surf, we hope this CI HAPPY will bring positive vibes and our gratitude to Ryan when he can shred again! It is his selfless and heroic support of his fellow healthcare workers, his devotion to caring for the sick, and his love of surfing that has touched us all at The Surf Station. Congratulations Ryan!
#StokeAHero was conceived to show our gratitude and do what we can to share some stoke with our Healthcare Heroes for all of their sacrifices and tireless commitment to public health, all of which have been compounded by the Covid-19 Pandemic. We received an overwhelming amount of heartwarming and humbling nomination emails/IG entries. So many that our owner, Tory Strange, was compelled to put his personal funds towards giving away 10 more boards to our Healthcare Heros!
