As we prepared to select our 11th and final winner, we came across the story of 2 local Healthcare Heroes and their son Jaxon. Dane Taylor is a Flight Paramedic and Base Supervisor with Lifeflight in Jacksonville and Kimra Taylor is an RN in the Emergency Department at Baptist South. In early February Dane and Kimra learned that their 2.5-year old son Jaxon would need surgery after he was found to have a rapidly growing testicular mass. Adding even more heartache to their situation, the Taylors were also devastated by the passing of the Matriarch of their family, Jaxon’s Nana, Karen just days later. Jaxon was subsequently diagnosed with a rare form of Cancer called Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma. Luckily, radiation was not required but 6 months of chemotherapy, strict dieting, and protecting Jaxon from bacteria, viruses, and fungi certainly was. Kimra took a leave of absence from her position which left Dane as the family’s sole provider. Adjusting to life around chemotherapy during a pandemic while grieving the devastating loss of the matriarch of their family, the Taylor’s still made sure that they kept Jaxon’s spirits high as he fought his Cancer.
Fast forward to today and Jaxon has beaten his cancer at age 3! A true Super Hero, this little warrior fought hard and smiled through it all. The Surf Station is donating the value of a #ciHappy to the Taylor family in lieu of a new board to help with the medical costs and loss of income that they’ve experienced. Visit the link in our bio to help the Taylor’s in their time of need if you are able. Thanks to all the nominators, winners, and all of our First Responders and Healthcare Workers! We appreciate all of your support! #thesurfstation #healthcareheroes #stokeahero
