Amanda Tebault is this week’s #StokeAHero Channel Islands Happy winner!
Amanda is an RN from Satellite Beach, Fl. Less than a month into starting a new nursing job at Rockledge Regional Medical Center, Amanda received a crisis response request for volunteers to go to Boston for short-term assignments in critical need areas.
Without hesitation, Amanda agreed to volunteer for the ICU and flew to Boston a day later. She left her family, 5 Great Danes, and 2 Maine Coon cats to go and help others in a time of crisis.
During her time in Boston, Amanda was met with many challenges, long shifts, and extremely ill patients in need of care. An experience that one of Amanda’s nominators, Hamp McKnight laments, “It was a different Covid effect than we saw here.” A testament to her professionalism and positive attitude, Amanda acknowledges the hard times but emphasizes that the greatest reward was being a part of her patient’s recovery after long battles with the virus and seeing them rejoin their families. A self-quarantine awaited Amanda on her arrival home. Thankfully, so did a negative test result for Covid.
Amanda finds peace in surfing and has been able to get a few sessions in since returning to Satellite and her position at Rockledge Medical Center. We are stoked to link her up with both a brand new #ciHappy and a big THANK YOU from all of us at The Surf Station. Amanda’s immediate response to offer her time to the hard-hit areas of Boston, her courage, and her positive attitude during these extremely tough times certainly are heroic! Enjoy your new board, Amanda!
