Hello everyone!
Thanks for tuning in and we are back this week with a literal local legend. I am sure most of you look at Tory’s dawn patrol surf report every morning and I would say that around 75% of the time there is a shot of a certain individual surfing 4th street before the sun is completely up… that person is today’s featured local surfer, Scott Calvin.
Many years ago I joined the ranks of the Surf Station and would walk up the stairs everyday to clock in to work. Every day I would walk by the “wall of fame” that adorned the wall outside the office. Dozens of generations of St Augustine surfers were featured but I always would look at one photo of this awesome frontside gaff and I never knew who it was. Well over the years I ended up working every Saturday (for a decade..) and I finally met the man in the photo, Scott! Scott worked in the shop for around five years in the 90s and eventually became shop manager. His generation of employees are some of the most respected and well liked in St Augustine to this day: Brian “Toofy” Hornung(who still works on Saturdays), Chucky Lanham(still one of St Aug’s best surfers), Rob Fulmer , Jason Hadjis(still ripping and fishing up a storm locally)and Tripp Turner(shop manager turned pastor and board builder on Oahu). I am honored to have followed in his footsteps because Scott is an incredible, dedicated surfer and also a great father and husband. Enjoy!

Words directly from Scott himself:
As a now 50 year old – it has given me a new stoke to surf in all conditions on the Shadow. The forward wide spot helps in getting into waves easily and once up and going – love the speed and responsiveness…the somewhat pulled in tail holds well.”
